Trend Alert: TikTok Clay Rings

Let's face it, I spend a lot of my down time scrolling through TikTok because I'm perpetually bored. Sometimes my FYP will be filled with cat videos, while other times it's filled with sexy men thirst traps (yeah I can admit that).

Last week, during my daily thumb exercise on TikTok, I came across a new trend going around about handmade clay rings. Now you know me, I love testing out DIY trends to see if they actually work or not, so I just had to give this one a go.

I am pretty happy about the rings I made, so I definitely think this trend is worth the hype.

To make the chunky 90s inspired rings, I first ran to Michaels on my day off and picked up the necessary tools. I bought white air-dry clay, paint and brushes. Super simple and my bill was around $20.

I used white clay as the base because I wanted to create different hues, but you can find pre-colored clay on Amazon if you don't want to paint them.

Once you have everything you need, it's crafting time! It's super easy and not time-consuming to make the rings.

All you need to do is:
  • Make any design you want for the ring
  • Measure it around the finger you want it to go on
  • Cut off the extra clay
  • Mold the two ends together

I recommend using water to fuse the two ends and to ease any cracks in the clay once it's in ring form.

After the rings are all made, you have to let them dry for at least five hours.

Once this step is done, it is time to paint! I bought neon colors as my base and then used black and white paint to play around with my chosen color palette.

Letting the paint dry was honestly the hardest part because I could see how cute the rings were turning out, but once they were dry, I was so excited to wear them!

I recommend checking out #tiktokclayrings or #clayrings on TikTok for design and color inspiration. There are a ton of awesome creators who also did trend.

I really like how mine turned out and I think everyone should give this DIY a try.  If you do, let me know in the comments below!
