Top 5 Local Coffee Shops in Duluth

As a college student and avid lover of coffee, I find myself spending a large amount of my time in coffee shops. When I first moved to Duluth, Minnesota, I had stuck mostly to the coffee shop on campus due to the convince of it, but I wanted to venture out and discover all the coffee shops in the city.

So a few friends and I went on a coffee shop exploring adventure and found the top businesses in our area. This is the list of the top five Duluth coffee shops in no particular order. I recommend any of them to local Duluthians and tourists alike.

Duluth Coffee Company
(218) 221-6643

Established in 2012 by owner Eric Faust, Duluth Coffee Company's mission "is to source, roast and craft coffee with integrity and intentionality. [They] strive to evolve the community of coffee through accessibility and education. Coffee is [their] vessel for improving the lives of everyone from origin to cup."

When stepping into this coffee shop, you are entering a coffee lover’s haven. There is a giant roaster on site and low-fi hip hop is projected from the speakers. All that added with the perfectly roasted coffee makes for an environment made for studying, catching up with a friend, or just hanging out.

Only thing I would recommend is that you bring a cushion for your cushion (aka booty), because the wooden seats aren't comfortable for extended visits. I ordered a vanilla cappuccino and almond croissant.
Wussow’s Concert Café
324 N Central Ave, Duluth, MN 55807
wussows.com
(218) 624-5957
For 19 years, Wussow’s Concert Café has offered the public a place to gather, listen to live music, and indulge in the espresso bar. There is a full food menu and they also serve select craft beer and wine. Formally known as Beaner’s Central, this small but lively shop has something for everyone.
The fun and welcoming atmosphere at Wussow's is what makes them special and set apart from the other shops. With the live music playing at certain times throughout the week, Wussow's makes for a great place to bring your pals and laptops. I love going on the weekends because it is packed with music loving, art creating, community members who are willing to make friends with anyone. Last weekend after stepping off the stage, a singer said, "it's the music, it's the journey," and that can pretty much sum up the vibe of the place right there. I ordered a London fog tea and a veggie melt.

Perk Place Coffeehouse & Bakery 1336 W Arrowhead Rd, Duluth, MN 55811 www.perkplaceduluth.com (218) 730-7375
Perk Place Coffeehouse & Bakery is a quaint little shop nestled between a Papa Murphy’s and a liquor store. They are experts in all things coffee and homemade pastries and offer a quiet place to study or spend time with friends.

Since it is close to campus, I find myself studying at this coffeehouse more than the other ones. I ordered a London fog and a cherry almond scone.

Amity Coffee
4429 E Superior St, Duluth, MN 55804
www.amitycoffeeduluth.com
(218) 525-7323

Amity Coffee is a cozy family owned coffee shop in the Lakeside neighborhood that serves locally produced coffee, tea, beer, and farm to table food. Since opening in 2014, Amity has focused on being earth and community friendly by supporting local artists through live music events and decorating their walls with artwork to purchase.
Small, but welcoming, this coffee shop makes for a great place to gather with friends, family, and co-workers. Music is soft enough that you can actually be productive and get some work done if you need to. I ordered a chai latte and a breakfast burrito.

Dovetail Café & Marketplace 1917 W Superior St, Duluth, MN 5580 Duluthfolkschool.com (218)-481-7888
Since 2018, Dovetail Café & Marketplace has housed delicious coffee, music, a strong community, and homemade craft goodies. The café is also a part of the Duluth Folk School.

With the spacious open layout and calming atmosphere, this café makes for the perfect place to grab food off of their full menu and be productive.
I once again ordered a London fog. My friends ordered a lavender latte, iced mint tea, two cosmic brownie cookies, and a blackberry cream cheese muffin.
