Hey, it's hard being strong all the time and not giving in to the crave monsters, but the internet is a wonderful place full of recipes that take a healthy food and turn it into a beautiful crave worthy creation.
The past year, one huge craze that has been going around are recreating typical American foods into vegan friendly options. I wanted to take on this challenge and make my own recipe for vegan BBQ cauliflower wings. I am not vegan by any means, but I am vegetarian, so I haven't had a majestic BBQ wing in so long. You could say I was praying this recipe would turn out.
And boy did it! Not to praise myself, but these "wings" are wicked good. Vegans and non-vegans alike will truly love this recipe.
4-6 servings
Cook + Prepare time: 45 mins
Ingredients:
- Nonstick cooking spray
- 1 cup rice flour
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 medium to large whole cauliflower, cut into florets (stems optional)
- 1 cup vegan barbecue sauce
- 1 cup water
Directions:
First preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Prepare baking sheet by spraying the non sticking cooking spray lightly onto it.
Whisk all dry ingredients (spices and flour) together in a large mixing bowl, slowly adding the water until a thin batter is formed. Place the cauliflower florets into the batter, covering each one completely.
Use tongs to grab the florets and allow access batter to drip off before placing them on the coated baking sheet.
Bake for 10 mins and then turn over to allow the other side to bake for an additional 10 mins. After those 20 minutes are done and the batter is fully dry on the florets, take them out and use a pastry brush to fully coat all florets in the barbecue sauce.
Then bake for an additional 9 minutes. After that last step it is time to serve.
I served mine with homemade vegan ranch and man they were the bomb! I will definitely be making these again. The great thing about this recipe is that the barbecue sauce can be switched out for different sauces to give these "wings" any kind of flavor. One could go with buffalo sauce, sweet and sour sauce, I mean the sky is the limit here.
So there you have it! My take on vegan BBQ cauliflower wings. Let me know what you think of these in the comments below and if you have ever had something like this.
