Chicago: The City That Lives

I recently took a trip to Chicago and I already want to go back.

Chicago is alive. It breathes, thinks, and dances, among it's inhabitants.

Chicago excepts nothing in return for its undying support of the people who are trying to make it in a fast paced world, but yet Chicagoans still give back. The people of Chicago care for their city like one of their own. The river is cleaned yearly of anything that has made its way into the waters and the recycling system is next level. When someone talks bad about their beloved city, chests are puffed out, and eyebrows are raised, because no one talks smack about the city of life.

Paris is the city of love and New York is the city that never sleeps, but Chicago is the city that lives.

I now long to hear the sounds of the city from my bedroom window. The roaring of traffic as taxis and the L train wizz on by. People walking past talking into their ears on business calls. Jazz musicians playing alongside the timeless Chicago theater. An old man signing "You are beautiful" over and over again, but never tiring. Two lovers whispering sweet nothings in each other's ears when no one is watching in the candle lit dining room. All the sounds of Chicago.

I was only there for three days, but it felt like I finally found a place where my heart belongs; a big city.

I want the hustle and bustle. I want the dirt and the grim. I yearn for the good, the bad, and the ugly of city life. One day I hope to move to New York City or Chicago and start a life there. A new life where no one knows me. A life that will be scary and full of new adventures. A life that even at three a.m. I would be able to get up and go to a bakery for a chocolate chip cookie. I want to live in a city that doesn't stop, a city that is always changing, coming up with new ways to have fun. I want a life straight out of a movie.

But for now I have my memories and my camera's pictures of a city that has a special place in my heart.

Look below this article for the view of Chicago through my camera lens if you too long for that city life!
